Yearly Archives: 2016

The Have-a-Go Workshops have been very popular, and great fun for both workshop leaders and participants. There was a real buzz in the room, and it was very exciting to witness the images and shapes emerging – see for yourself on this photo. We had some very positive feedback, and […]

Have-a-Go Workshops

Our Art Exhibition kicks off to a rousing start with a special champagne reception after the community centre ground-breaking event featuring David Cameron! The exhibition looks fantastic, it also runs into the Green Room this year – do come along and look around. Teas served here all afternoon Street Fair […]

Our three winning children’s artworks can now be seen in the window of Cotswold Frames.  Do go and have a look!  The three winners will be presented with their prizes by the chairman of the Art Society, Tony Lloyd at the Street Fair on Saturday 17 September.

Winning children’s artwork on display!

Elizabeth Haldane kindly welcomed 6 of us to come and paint in her lovely garden on 7 September.  The large sprawling ironstone house overseas a panoramic view of rolling countryside for miles.  It is a little way outside the village of Swerford so not easy to find but what an […]

Painting day in Swerford

Five artists including Mary enjoyed painting in her cottage garden in Ramsden on Wednesday 31 August.  There were various late summer flowers and fruits, including some huge rose hips and an apple tree laden with lovely red eaters to inspire us!  An inquisitive cat, apparently from next door, wanted to know what we […]

Painting in Mary’s Garden

Four artists settled themselves in various corners of Pam’s beautiful garden in Witney on Thursday 25 August.  It seemed to have little ‘rooms’, outdoor areas where you could sit, either in a courtyard, beside a trickling fountain or beneath the fruit trees.  Everywhere was adorned with pots of colourful geraniums, […]

Painting in Pam’s Garden

The Charlbury Art Society is planning a series of inexpensive, fun workshops for young and old, simply to give an opportunity to experience a selection of art forms and have fun with art materials and ideas. The first 8 sessions are planned for Sunday Sept 25 – linocut printmaking and […]

Have a Go at Workshops

How lucky we were to be painting on a sunny day in such a beautiful location on Thursday 18 August.  There were eight artists dotted along the canalside and we sat outside Annie’s Cafe for lunch.  So much activity, narrowboats coming and going, the bridge going up and down and people hiring kayaks […]

Painting day at Thrupp

Each year the children of the Primary School take part in the Street Fair Art Exhibition, sponsored by The Charlbury Art Society. The theme this year is ONCE UPON A YEAR… chosen because there are so many important anniversaries to celebrate in 2016! Some are very well known, such as: […]

Primary School Art Competition Winners

Sue and Mary compare their ‘work in progress’ during a plein air session on the Playing Close on 10 August. Here is a watercolour done by one of our members during a day out painting in the Mill Field on 28 July.  Do you recognise the artist in the painting? .

Recent members’ painting days

Today (Wednesday 20 July) about ten of our members ventured over to Banbury Hill Farm for a day of sketching and painting.  It was a beautiful hot but quite windy day but everywhere you looked there was something interesting to paint.  Apart from a very interesting selection of animals including […]

Painting Day at Banbury Hill Farm

Sadly another damp day for our second outdoor summer painting day, but this did not deter Marion and I!  We walked around the gardens of the Priory with Nancy busy taking photos of the wonderful vegetation then Marion and I settled in the conservatory as the rain came on.  Marion has […]

Second Summer Painting Outdoors

Well, needless to say, it rained and for those rain shy artists who decided against today’s first summer plein air session (everyone!), here is what you missed.  The beautiful gardens of the Priory – so come along next week when we hope the sun will be shining.

Our first plein air summer painting day!

The audience all took part in an interesting way of being spontaneous after a talk and demonstration by Mary Knowland.  They produced individual “artwork” -many surprised themselves by producing loose Picasso style artwork without looking at their paper, only at the subject matter.
