Just briefly to say that I recently visited the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy and was quite blown away by some of the exhibits and I believe this is the effect it is supposed to have! Contrary to what many Charlbury visitors to the exhibition had said to me, I found many of the exhibits deeply thought provoking and well worth the time spent studying and interpreting them. It always helps to go along with a friend who is equally keen to discuss and take time over the exhibition.
After a good three hours and dying on my feet, we dragged ourselves up to the David Hockey Portraits, not wanting to miss this while we were there. I soon forgot my tiredness and became instantly animated by the illuminated colour of these pieces. 82 portraits almost identical in format but with a unique character shining out from each. I loved them!
I would recommend spending some time at both these exhibitions and don’t let anyone put you off!
Incidentally, we took the train from Oxford Parkway for the first time into Marylebone, then the tube to Green Park – easy! I would highly recommend this route if you haven’t tried it.
